According to this article, based on the most recent census, the two counties in the country that have the highest divorce rates are Wayne County in Indiana where 19% of the people there are divorced and Monroe County in Florida where 18% of the people are divorced. Read more…
Till Death Do Us Part – and then some…
Until 2005, the law in Pennsylvania provided that, if one of the parties to a divorce died prior to the entry of a divorce decree, the divorce action abated. This meant, the divorce action was over, no divorce decree would be issued and, although the parties may have been separated for years, the person who was still alive was the surviving spouse for inheritance purposes. If the person died after a divorce decree was entered but before the economic issues were resolved, i.e. if there was a bifurcated divorce (see my post of August 28th for a discussion of bifurcation), then the Estate of the deceased replaced the dead person and the division of property would continue. Opposites attracting may be better for divorce lawyers
According to this article, a study performed by the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business indicated that tightwads and spendthrift tend to be attracted to each other. The study further went on to indicate that the more a person was unhappy about his or her spending habits, the more likely the person was to be attracted to people with opposite spending habits.
